Caerba Legacy is an RID Irish Draught colt who was successfully graded as a pure bred Irish Draught (GB) Stallion on 19 February 2003 . He was also graded First Premium with Scottish Sports Horse as a two year old in September 2002
He was successfully shown as a foal and yearling winning in both Hunter and Irish Draught classes.
Caerbra Legacy sire Pride of Meath is a sire of show jumpers, eventers, dressage and show horses. His dam Caerba May Girl has won many Championships in both Irish Draught and Hunter classes and is a Hornby Select Mare. Her sire Touch of the Blues is an influential sire of ID horses, and has now been sold to the USA .
He was bred by the late Daphne Kyle, Caerba Legacy was brought unseen at one month old, a big arrogant foal with huge hocks and knees and a strange beige colour. He was shown successfully as a foal and yearling, but with no classes for two year old colts the only alternative was ‘Scottish Sport Horse Grading’ held in late September. The judges for the grading and shows are from the K.W.P.N. Holland, so it was interesting to see what the judges would think about a pure bred Irish Draught.
At the grading each horse is shown in hand at halt and walk, and then turned loose for free trot and canter. The three year olds and over do have the option to jump through a grid. The whole class is brought back in front of the judges and placed.
Premiums are awarded from First to Third, with third being the lowest. The judges comment on each horse, mostly stating what they do like, and it proved very interesting and helpful.
Caerba Legacy rose to the occasion and showed himself well. He had twice the bone as the other colt in his class! He was awarded a first premium and we believe he is the first purebred Irish Draught to achieve this award.
The interesting comment from the judges was that they didn’t know how to judge him, but the proof of his quality is proven by his successful grading at the Irish Draught Horse Society 2003 Inspections.
